About First Day Abroad
Practical information for the first day in a country you have not been to before: what the border asks for, how to get out of the airport, how to get online, and what a taxi should cost.
Why it exists
Most travel writing is about the third day. The first one is the one that goes wrong: the airport turns out to be an hour from the city it is named after, the ticket machine only takes a card you do not have, the SIM counter shuts before your flight lands. That is the day these guides are written for.
How the guides are put together
Everything is written by hand from primary sources - the transport operator, the immigration authority, the airport - and each guide lists the pages it was checked against, with the date it was last verified. Prices are quoted in the local currency, because that is what you will be asked for; the converter turns them into yours.
Rules and fares change constantly, and some of what is here will be out of date before it is corrected. Where a guide contradicts an official source, the official source is right - which is why the link is always on the page.
How the site pays for itself
Some links to eSIM providers, transport operators and booking platforms are affiliate links, and the site earns a commission if you buy through them. They are marked where they appear. The recommendation comes first and the link second: if the answer is a three-euro bus, the guide says so, whether or not there is a commission on it.
