Who is responsible
First Day Abroad is run by one person, Ondřej Kadlec, who is the data controller for everything described below. Questions, requests and complaints go to ondra.kadlec@email.cz.
Reading the guides
You can read every guide on this site without an account and without agreeing to anything. Reading a page stores no cookie and needs no consent.
The web server keeps an access log - the request URL, the time, the browser’s user agent and the IP address it came from - so that crawler activity and errors are visible at all. Those logs are deleted automatically after 14 days and are never used to build a profile of anyone. The legal basis is legitimate interest in keeping the site working and reachable.
Analytics, only if you agree
The site uses Google Analytics 4 (property G-CT52TDSE4V) to count visits and see which guides get read. It runs in Google’s Consent Mode: in the EEA and the UK, analytics and advertising storage start denied, and no analytics cookie is written until you press “Accept” on the banner. Press “Decline” and none is ever written; Google receives only a cookieless ping with no identifier attached.
Your answer is remembered in your own browser under the local-storage key fda-consent - it is not sent anywhere. Clearing your browser storage for this site brings the banner back and resets the choice.
There is no advertising network on this site, no retargeting pixel, and no social-media tracker.
Things your browser remembers, and only your browser
The passport picker and the trip dates that personalise the guides are kept in your browser’s local storage (fda.passports.v2 and fda.trip.v1) when you are not signed in. They never leave the device, and “Forget my choices” on the destination pages deletes them.
If you make an account
Accounts are optional and only unlock saving guides, highlighting passages and posting tips. Sign-in runs on Supabase, which stores your email address, the encrypted password or the identifier from the provider you signed in with, and the timestamps of your sessions. Alongside it the site stores what you created with the account: saved guides, highlights, tips and comments, any trip you built, and whether you have bought the ad-free entitlement.
This is processing needed to provide the account you asked for. Tips and comments you post are meant to be public and are shown to other readers.
Reporting a change
The “Report a change” form takes what you write, the page it was sent from, and a photo if you attach one. To stop the form being flooded, the server takes your IP address, hashes it with a secret key and keeps only that digest for a short window. The raw IP address is never written to the database.
Affiliate links
Some links to eSIM providers, transport operators and booking platforms earn the site a commission; they are marked where they appear, and About explains how that works. Following one takes you to the partner’s own site, where their privacy policy applies. The click counter on this side records which offer was clicked and when - no user, session, IP address, user agent, referrer or country goes into it.
Who else sees the data
Three processors, and no one else: Supabase for the database, authentication and file storage; Google for analytics, if you accepted it; and Hetzner Online GmbH in Nuremberg, Germany, where the server runs. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared for advertising.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected, have it deleted, or object to the processing. Two of those need no email at all: signed in, the Account page downloads everything the site holds about you as a JSON file, and the same page deletes the account and its contents outright.
For anything else, write to ondra.kadlec@email.cz. If you think the site has handled your data badly, you can complain to your national data-protection authority - in the Czech Republic that is the Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů (uoou.gov.cz).
Changes to this policy
If what the site stores changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. There is no mailing list to notify.
