El Salvador International (SAL) to San Salvador
The airport stands at km 40.5 of its own motorway, in San Luis Talpa, an hour from the city it is named for and much closer to the surf coast.

- CEPA gives the address as km 40.5 of the Autopista al Aeropuerto Monsenor Romero, in San Luis Talpa, department of La Paz.
- That is unusually far for a capital's airport, and it is the single fact that reshapes an arrival here. Budget an hour, not twenty minutes.
- The motorway is good and the drive is easy; it is simply long.
Which way you are going
- San Salvador is inland and north, about an hour away.
- The surf coast - El Tunco, El Zonte, Costa del Sol - is closer, and for a lot of arrivals it makes more sense to go straight there than to go into the city first and come back out.
- Decide before you land. The transfer you book depends entirely on which of those two you are heading for, and they are in different directions.
The airport
- CEPA, the Comision Ejecutiva Portuaria Autonoma, operates it along with the country's ports, and it has been expanding capacity in recent years.
- The country uses the US dollar, so there is no currency to change on arrival.
