Driving in Azerbaijan: licence, roads and tolls

• Roads are free and the Baku-Ganja and Baku-Quba highways are modern; mountain roads to Xinaliq and Lahic are not.
• Speed cameras are everywhere on the Baku approaches and fines are issued automatically.
• Baku traffic is fast and assertive, and parking in the old city is close to impossible.
• Some border regions are closed to visitors and driving toward them is refused at checkpoints.
• Fuel is cheap and stations are frequent on the main routes, and far apart in the Talysh mountains and toward Lerik.
