Drives on the
right
The driver sits on the left and overtakes on the left. Roundabouts turn anticlockwise.
Your licence
Licence plus an IDP
Your own licence works with an International Driving Permit beside it. Get the permit at home before you fly - no country issues one for another country's licence.
Motorways
Free
There is no motorway charge for a car.
Azerbaijani roads are free and the highways are good, but the police are active and the alcohol limit is zero.

The alcohol limit is zero, and enforcement includes checkpoints on the intercity roads.
Roads are free and the Baku-Ganja and Baku-Quba highways are modern; mountain roads to Xinaliq and Lahic are not.

Baku traffic is fast and assertive, and parking in the old city is close to impossible.
Some border regions are closed to visitors and driving toward them is refused at checkpoints.
Fuel is cheap and stations are frequent on the main routes, and far apart in the Talysh mountains and toward Lerik.
