Guayaquil (GYE): the Metrovia stop at the airport shut in January 2024, and the taxi to the Malecon is six dollars
The city closed the airport Metrovia stop at 23:00 on 8 January 2024 and has published no reopening. What the airport does have is a co-operative taxi with a published eleven zone tariff, and the historic centre is zone three at six dollars.
- The Metrovia stop at the airport was closed from 23:00 on 8 January 2024 by the city council, during roadworks on Av. Isidro Ayora.
- The council directed users to the Ciudadela Simon Bolivar stop instead. No reopening has been published since.
- The vehicle exits from the airport onto Av. de las Americas were closed at the same time.
- The Metrovia fare is USD 0.30 for users registered on the La Guayaca card.
- The airport's authorised taxi co-operative runs 24 hours, 7 days, from the doors of national and international arrivals.
- Its published zone tariff runs from USD 4 to USD 25 across eleven zones.
- Zone one at USD 4 includes the Terminal Terrestre, the long-distance coach station.
- Zone three at USD 6 covers the historic centre: Malecon 2000, Las Penas, the Municipio and Barrio del Salado.
- Zone two at USD 5 covers the hotel cluster by the airport, including the Holiday Inn, Hotel Montecarlo, TRYP by Wyndham and Wyndham Garden.
- The Hilton Colon and the other Kennedy Norte, Alborada and Sauces hotels are USD 6.
- Cash is taken in the car. Card is not. Card payments are made at the co-operative's office in the international arrivals hall.

- The tariff is the co-operative's own and the airport says it can change without notice.
- The airport is inside the northern urban perimeter of Guayaquil, which is why the fares are this low.

The bus stop at the door is gone
- On 2 January 2024 the city council announced phase two of the Av. Isidro Ayora road scheme. Among the measures: from 23:00 on 8 January 2024 the Metrovia stop at Jose Joaquin de Olmedo airport was closed, with users told to use the Ciudadela Simon Bolivar stop instead. The vehicle exits from the airport onto Av. de las Americas were shut at the same time to take load off that junction.
- No reopening has been published. Guides that tell you to walk out of arrivals and onto a Metrovia articulated bus are describing an arrangement that ended.
- If you do use the Metrovia, the fare is USD 0.30 for users registered on the La Guayaca card, the city's own scheme, which more than 121,000 people hold.
What the airport actually has: a taxi with a price list
- The airport runs an authorised taxi co-operative, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, parked at the exits of national and international arrivals.
- The co-operative publishes a zone tariff of eleven zones, linked from the airport's own taxi page:
- Zone 1: USD 4. Includes the Terminal Terrestre, Aero Club, Bahia Norte, Mall del Sol.
- Zone 2: USD 5. Includes Cdla. Guayaquil, La Herradura, Kennedy Norte, Urdenor and the hotels beside the airport: Holiday Inn, Hotel Montecarlo, TRYP by Wyndham Guayaquil, Wyndham Garden, Garzota Inn, Quo Luxury Apartments.
- Zone 3: USD 6. The historic centre: Malecon 2000, Las Penas, Municipio de Guayaquil, Barrio del Salado, Urdesa, and the centre as far as Loja and Gomez Rendon. The Hilton Colon and the other Kennedy Norte, Alborada and Sauces hotels are also USD 6.
- Then USD 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 15, 20 and 25 out to zone eleven.
- The cars take cash and cards, but not cards in the car. Card payments are handled at the co-operative's office in the international arrivals hall, so carry small dollars if you do not want to detour.

- The airport states that the tariff is supplied by the co-operative and may change without notice, and separately recommends using only transport authorised by the airport, found on the ground floor of the terminal.
Why the fares are so low
- TAGSA describes the site as inside the northern urban perimeter of the city of Guayaquil. This is not an out of town airport: the long-distance coach station is a four dollar ride and the old town a six dollar one.
- The terminal operates 24 hours, as does the fire and medical service.
- Uber's own Ecuador city list includes Guayaquil, and its GYE airport page describes kerbside drop-off at the terminal you name when booking.
Guayaquil (GYE): fifteen free minutes in the car park, cash only, and the baggage trolley costs two dollars
The car park gives fifteen free minutes and then charges by the hour or part of it, and takes only cash. Trolleys are free everywhere in the terminal except international arrivals, where taking one to the car park costs two dollars unless you hold an onward domestic boarding pass.
- The first 15 minutes in the car park are free.
- After that it is USD 1.40 per hour or part of an hour.
- Twelve to twenty four hours is USD 14.40, and each further day is USD 14.40 plus USD 1.40 per extra hour or part hour.
- A lost ticket costs USD 14.40.
- Car park payment is cash only. There is no card lane.
- Capacity is 1,100 vehicles, with closed circuit television and private guards.
- Baggage trolleys are free inside the terminal, at both upstairs entrances and at the national and international baggage belts.
- In international arrivals a trolley costs USD 2.00 in cash if you want to take it out to the car park.
- That charge is waived if you show a boarding pass or itinerary for an onward domestic flight to Quito, Cuenca or Galapagos.
- Wi-Fi is free and unlimited on the "Guayaquil Airport Free Wifi" network, in both departure halls and the public areas.
- Galapagos travellers must buy the Transit Control Card for USD 20 at the Consejo de Gobierno de Galapagos desk in the upstairs departures hall.
- That desk is open 06:00 to 12:00 only, and the airport advises arriving two hours early for it.
- After buying the card you must have your bags inspected by ABG, next to the payment windows, before you can check in.
- The international departure tax is already inside your ticket price.
The car park
- The first 15 minutes are free. Past that the rate is USD 1.40 for each hour or part of an hour.
- From 12 to 24 hours the charge is USD 14.40. Beyond 24 hours you pay USD 14.40 per day plus USD 1.40 for each additional hour or part hour.
- A lost ticket is USD 14.40.
- Payment is in cash. The airport says so plainly, and it is the detail most likely to catch a traveller who has just landed with only cards.
- Capacity is 1,100 vehicles, in marked sectors, with closed circuit television and private guards.
The trolley is free, except where it is not
- Baggage trolleys cost nothing inside the terminal. They are at both upstairs entrances, at national arrivals baggage reclaim and at international arrivals baggage reclaim.
- In the international arrivals area only, taking a trolley through to the car park costs USD 2.00, in cash.
- That fee is waived if you are connecting to a domestic flight to Quito, Cuenca or Galapagos and show the boarding pass or itinerary.
If you are going to Galapagos
- You need the Tarjeta de Control de Transito, USD 20, bought at the Consejo de Gobierno de Galapagos office in the upstairs departures hall, with your identity document and your ticket.
- The desk is open 06:00 to 12:00. The airport recommends arriving two hours ahead for it. The card can also be bought online, but if the emailed document arrives with a watermark you must still go to the counter to regularise it.
- After the card, your bags are inspected by ABG, the Galapagos biosecurity agency, at a point beside the payment windows, and only then can you check in.
- The international departure tax is already included in the ticket price, so there is nothing to pay at the airport for that.
- Wi-Fi is free and unlimited on "Guayaquil Airport Free Wifi" in both departure halls and the public areas.
