Getting from Tbilisi International Airport to the city

• 1 GEL, whatever the distance.
• From the airport to the Central Railway Station, calling at Freedom Square in the middle of the old town.
• Roughly 07:00 to 23:00 from the airport; 06:00 to about 22:45 towards it.
• Reckon on about 50 minutes to Freedom Square and 70 minutes to the railway station, as timetabled.

At one lari this is the cheapest urban airport transfer in this whole section, and it goes exactly where visitors want to be.

The train that barely runs

• 0.50 GEL to the central station.
• Two departures a day in each direction.

It is genuinely charming and it is almost never useful. Unless your flight happens to land within an hour of one of the two departures, take the bus.

Taxis

• A fixed 40 GEL into the centre with the airport's official taxi, 50 GEL to suburban areas.
• Use Bolt or Yandex Go. Both work in Tbilisi and both fix the price in the app.
• The official rank outside arrivals charges a fixed rate, around the clock.
• Confirm the fare before the luggage goes in, and check it is the airport's own taxi.

Practicalities

• Pay with a bank card or a Metromoney card on the bus. Cash works only on buses fitted with a cash register, and does not give the 90-minute transfer.
• The airport is about 17 km east of the centre.
• Georgia is very cheap by European standards and this is the first place you will notice it.
