Getting to hospital
The US State Department warns that ambulances may not arrive quickly and are not uniformly well equipped, and that it can be faster to reach a hospital by car or taxi. For anything short of a spinal or head injury, that is the practical route - order a car, or ask your accommodation to.
- Southern Bali has hospitals used to foreign patients: BIMC Hospital Kuta and Kasih Ibu Kedonganan.
- Expect to pay or guarantee payment before treatment. Keep your insurance policy number and the insurer's emergency line saved offline, not only in an email you need data to open.
- Look up your own embassy or consulate before you travel. It is the first call if your passport goes missing, and searching for it after the fact is slower than it sounds.
