eSIM and SIM cards in Kuwait

The local SIM

• Zain, Ooredoo and stc cover Kuwait, and all sell tourist prepaid SIMs at the airport and in the malls.
• Registration needs the passport.
• Coverage is complete. Kuwait is small, flat and almost entirely urban - there is nowhere with no signal short of the desert border zones, which you should not be near anyway.
• Data is fast and cheap.

An eSIM instead

• Straightforward here and all three networks are well supported.
• A local number is useful if you will use delivery apps, several of which verify by SMS.

What not to point your phone at

• Photographing or filming government, military, industrial or oil infrastructure is illegal, and that explicitly includes borders and oil fields.
• Kuwait is an oil country and the installations are visible from the road, which is exactly how people get into trouble - a photograph from a moving car of something that looked like scenery.
• The Iraqi border area is a restricted zone. Do not drive towards it for a look.

• Universal in hotels, malls and cafes, and fast.
