The quietest country in Europe
- Moldova receives fewer visitors than any other European country.
- Accommodation is correspondingly cheap and you will rarely find anything full.
- Chisinau has a normal city hotel market, mostly business-oriented.
Rural guesthouses
- Village guesthouses (pensiuni) are the interesting option and are extremely inexpensive.
- Wine estates offer rooms - Chateau Purcari and others - and are the most comfortable way to see the wine country.
- Orheiul Vechi has guesthouses near the cave monastery and is the country's most striking landscape.
Practicalities
- You will be asked for your passport at check-in.
- English is less widely spoken than in the Balkans; Romanian and Russian dominate.
- Cash is often expected in rural accommodation.
