Nice is the airport
- Nice Cote d'Azur (NCE) is about 30 km west of Monaco and is the airport for it.
- There is no Monaco airport. There is a heliport, and a seven-minute helicopter transfer from Nice, which costs what you would expect.

- The express bus is direct and simple and stops in Monaco itself.
- The train is much cheaper. Take the tram from the airport to Nice-Ville station, then the coastal TER to Monaco-Monte-Carlo, which takes about 25 minutes and runs frequently.
- The train station in Monaco is underground, carved into the rock, with exits at different levels of the city - check which exit you want before you climb.
- The coastal train line is one of the nicest short rides in Europe.
Getting around once there
- Monaco is about 2 km2 and is walkable end to end, but it is built up a cliff.
- Public lifts and escalators connect the levels and are free - this is the local secret, and there are dozens of them.
- Buses cover the principality cheaply.
