Power and language

• 230 V, 50 Hz, sockets type C and F.
• Montenegrin is written in both Latin and Cyrillic, with Latin dominant on the coast.
• English is widely spoken in tourist areas, less so inland.
• "Dobar dan" is hello, "hvala" is thank you.

The rhythm

• The coast runs on Mediterranean time - a long lunch, a late dinner, an evening promenade.
• Inland is different, more austere and more mountainous in every sense.
• Coffee is a social institution as it is across the region.

Practicalities

• Orthodox monasteries expect covered shoulders and knees; Ostrog in particular is a working pilgrimage site, not an attraction.
• Cash is still needed inland.
