Peru prohibits carrying very large sums of cash outright, and anything archaeological is national property.
- Archaeological objects may not be exported. Anything Inca or pre-Inca is state property; the replicas sold in Cusco need a receipt saying so, and the airport asks for it.
- Coca leaves and coca tea may not be taken out. They are legal and everywhere in Cusco and illegal on arrival almost everywhere else.
- There is a hard cap on cash, not just a declaration. Amounts over the declarable threshold must be reported, and carrying more than a higher fixed limit through the border is prohibited outright rather than merely taxed.
- The allowance is a carton of cigarettes and a couple of litres of spirits per adult, plus a value cap on other goods.
- Wildlife products are prohibited, which covers the items sold as condor feather or cat fur in tourist markets.
