Rimini is the gateway - a EUR 7 bus, just under an hour, and a cable car at the end.

There is no San Marino airport
  • Rimini (RMI) is the nearest airport, about 25 km away, with mainly seasonal and charter flights.
  • Bologna (BLQ) is the practical airport for most arrivals - about two hours away, with a train to Rimini and then the bus. See the Bologna airport page.
  • Ancona and Forli also serve the area.
The Rimini bus
  • Bonelli Bus runs a scheduled shuttle between Rimini and San Marino all year.
  • About EUR 7 one way, and just under an hour.
  • It leaves from Rimini railway station, which is where the train from Bologna arrives - so the connection is straightforward.
  • Buy on board or online.
The cable car
  • The bus arrives at Borgo Maggiore, below the historic centre.
  • A cable car (funivia) climbs to the City of San Marino on the ridge in two minutes, and is the pleasant way up.
  • Some services continue up by road.
  • The old town is at the top of Monte Titano and is entirely pedestrian and steep - this is not a place for wheeled luggage.
Driving
  • Parking is in numbered car parks below the old town, with lifts and escalators up.
  • Do not attempt to drive into the historic centre.
