The threshold covers cash and equivalents carried by one traveller. Not declaring it is what causes the money to be seized, not the amount itself.

Singapore gives no duty-free tobacco allowance at all, and every cigarette in your bag is dutiable from the first one.

  • There is no tobacco allowance. Not one cigarette enters duty-free, the composite fine for an undeclared packet starts in the hundreds of dollars, and the red channel exists precisely for this.
  • Vapes are illegal to import, possess or use. The fines run to thousands of dollars, the ban is enforced at Changi and at the Causeway, and it covers heated tobacco too.
  • Chewing gum may not be imported except for therapeutic gum bought from a pharmacist.
  • The liquor allowance is up to 3 litres in a fixed combination of spirits, wine and beer, and only if you have been out of the country for 48 hours and are not arriving from Malaysia.
  • SGD 20,000 or more in cash must be declared.
  • Drug penalties include the death sentence for trafficking quantities, which the arrival card states in plain words on the front.
