Getting from Queen Alia International Airport to the city

The Airport Express

• About JOD 3.30 per person.
• Every 30 minutes by day, hourly at night, which is unusual and genuinely useful - Amman takes a lot of overnight arrivals.
• 45 to 60 minutes into the city.
• Stops at the 7th Circle, the 6th Circle and the North Bus Station (Tabarbour).

Know your circle

Amman's geography is built around numbered roundabouts (circles) along a single ridge road, and addresses are given by circle.

• Find out which circle your accommodation is nearest before you travel.
• The bus stops are at circles, not at hotels - expect a short taxi or walk at the end.
• Downtown (al-Balad) is below the circles, in the valley, and is a separate short ride from most of them.

Taxis and Careem

• Careem is the dominant ride-hailing app in Jordan and fixes the price in advance.
• Airport taxis operate on a set fare to Amman that is many times the bus, and is legitimate.
• Agree the fare before you set off if you take a rank taxi.

Onward

• Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba are the reason most people are here, and buses to all three run from Amman rather than from the airport.
• JETT is the intercity coach operator and runs from its own terminals in the city.
• Some travellers hire a car at the airport and drive straight south, skipping Amman entirely - the Desert Highway makes that straightforward.
