Drones are confiscated on arrival unless cleared in advance, and taking anything picked up at Petra or Jerash out of the country is an antiquities offence.

Drones are confiscated at Jordanian airports, and anything picked up at Petra is an antiquities offence on the way out.

  • Drones are prohibited without prior clearance. They are taken at Queen Alia airport and recovering one is difficult, so leave it at home rather than argue at the desk.
  • Antiquities may not be exported. That includes a stone or a shard from Petra or Jerash, and the airport scanner is looking for exactly that.
  • The allowance is 200 cigarettes and around a litre of spirits per adult, with a value cap on other goods.
  • Cash above the declarable threshold must be reported on entry and on exit.
  • Dead Sea cosmetics travel fine, but the liquid limits of the airline apply and the larger jars need to go in the hold.
  • The land crossings from Israel and the West Bank have their own customs procedure and their own hours, which are shorter than you expect.
