Antananarivo (TNR): the free shuttle is for connections only, and no fare into the city exists
Ravinala Airports lists four ways out of Ivato and gives a phone number for three of them and a price for none. The free shuttle carries domestic to international connections, not passengers into town, and there is no ride-hailing app in Madagascar at all.
- The airport publishes four ways out and a fare for none of them. There is no official Ivato to Antananarivo price to check a driver against.
- Licensed taxi: +261 32 40 594 53. That is the number the airport gives for its approved taxis.
- Car hire at the airport: +261 34 05 811 13.
- The free shuttle, +261 32 12 345 67, is for domestic to international connections only. It is not a ride into the city.
- Ivato has three terminals, domestic, international and cargo, which is why a connection shuttle exists at all.
- The bus is line D, from the nearest stops, and the airport publishes no timetable for it.
- Agree the taxi price before the car moves. With no published tariff, the fare is whatever you settle on at the kerb.
- There is no ride-hailing in Madagascar. Uber's country directory, Bolt's city list and Yango's country list contain no Malagasy entry.
- Baggage is handled by Madagascar Ground Handling, with claims taken at the baggage dispute area in the new international terminal, on +261 34 49 222 01.
- The airport call centre is +261 34 00 123 45, 08:00 to 20:00, seven days a week.
- Arrive late for check-in and you pay a late fee and go on the next available flight, by the airport's own FAQ.
- The airport connects the capital to ten destinations, including Paris, Istanbul, Dubai, Johannesburg, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Reunion and Mauritius.
Four options, three phone numbers, no prices
Ravinala Airports, the concession holder for Ivato, lists exactly four ways out of the terminal on its own access page.

- No fare is published for any of it, by the airport, by an operator or by a transport authority. That is the state of it, and it is worth knowing before you are standing at the kerb being quoted a number.
- The free shuttle is not a ride into town. It exists because Ivato has separate domestic and international terminals, and it carries connecting passengers between them.
- Line D has no published timetable either. It is a fact about the airport's geography rather than a recommendation, particularly with luggage.
No app is coming
- Uber's own worldwide country directory does not include Madagascar. Bolt's city list has no Malagasy city. Yango's own country switcher does not list Madagascar.
- Three of the operators that would normally cover a capital city this size all say, in their own directories, that they are not here. Arrange the car before you land, through your hotel or the airport's licensed taxi number, and agree the price first.
Numbers worth saving

- Baggage is handled by Madagascar Ground Handling. Claims are taken at the baggage dispute area in the new international terminal, or on +261 34 49 222 01.
- If you miss check-in, the airline charges a late fee and rebooks you on the next available flight. The airport says so itself, which is a fair warning on a field where the road in is unpredictable.
Antananarivo (TNR): the parking bill jumps 4.5 times the moment you pass three hours
Ivato's tariff runs 2,000 ariary for an hour, 3,500 for two and 5,000 for three. The next band, three to twelve hours, is 22,500. Anyone meeting a delayed flight should leave and come back rather than sit through the boundary.
- Up to 1 hour: 2,000 ariary. 1 to 2 hours: 3,500. 2 to 3 hours: 5,000.
- 3 to 12 hours: 22,500 ariary. That is 4.5 times the three hour price, charged the moment you cross the line.
- 12 to 24 hours: 45,000 ariary. Over 24 hours: a 45,000 package.
- If you are meeting a delayed flight, leave the car park and come back. Two separate stops under three hours cost 10,000 ariary; one stop of three hours and five minutes costs 22,500.
- One tariff applies at both the international and the national terminal. There is no cheaper side.
- There is no long-stay parking package. The airport states it in its own FAQ.
- A corporate parking subscription exists and is arranged by email to contact@ravinala-airports.aero, not at the barrier.
- Businesses in the duty-free zone can only be paid in foreign currency. The airport cites Article 10 of Decree 21449/2015/MFB/SG/DGD.
- So do not change your last euros before the duty-free shop. Ariary is not accepted there.
- Sums of 1,000 euros or more must be declared at the customs office in the international terminal.
- Airport wifi is free, connected by scanning the QR code on the posters in the departure area.
- Banks, ATMs, currency exchange and SIM card sales are all listed among the airport's services.

- The step from the third hour to the fourth multiplies the bill by 4.5. Every band below it moves by 1,500 ariary at a time; this one moves by 17,500.
- That is a meeter's problem, not a traveller's. International arrivals at Ivato queue for immigration and for visa processing, and a car that came to collect somebody is the thing sitting in the car park while it happens.
- The cheap answer is to leave and return. Two stops of under three hours cost 10,000 ariary between them. One stop of three hours and five minutes costs 22,500.
- One rate covers both terminals, so there is no cheaper place to wait, and there is no long-stay package at all. A corporate parking subscription exists, arranged by email to contact@ravinala-airports.aero.
Two money rules specific to this building
- Businesses in the duty-free zone may only be paid in foreign currency. The airport quotes the law it is following: Article 10 of Decree 21449/2015/MFB/SG/DGD. Do not change your last euros or dollars before you shop airside, because ariary will not be taken there.
