Getting from Don Mueang International Airport to the city

The train, and the fare trap

• Don Mueang has its own Red Line station, on the commuter line that runs Rangsit to Krung Thep Aphiwat, the station that replaced Hua Lamphong as Bangkok's main terminus.
• The fare is 33 THB to Krung Thep Aphiwat. From there the Blue Line metro reaches the rest of the city. Chatuchak is 29 THB, Bang Son 39 THB, and no journey on the line costs more than 42 THB.
• Ignore the 20 baht figure you have read about. Since 1 October 2025 every electric train line in Bangkok is capped at 20 baht per trip, the Red Line and the Airport Rail Link included, but the cap is a registered benefit: you need a valid 13-digit Thai ID card and an EMV bank card or Rabbit ABT card registered through the Thang Rath app. Passengers who do not meet the conditions are charged the standard fare.

The airport buses

• A1 goes to Mo Chit 2, the northern bus terminal, next to the BTS and MRT at Chatuchak. 30 THB, every 15 minutes, 05.45 to 24.00.
• A2 goes to Victory Monument, also 30 THB, every 15 minutes, 06.00 to 23.00.
• A3 goes to Lumpini Park and A4 to Sanam Luang, near the old town and Khaosan. Both are 50 THB, every 30 minutes, 06.00 to 23.00.
• The counter is at Gate 6, first floor of International Terminal 1, and the buses pick up in front of the terminal and the service hall.
• Limo Bus runs to Silom and to Khaosan for 150 THB, from counters at Gate 7 in Terminal 1 and Gate 15 in the domestic terminal.

Taxis

• The counter is at Gate 8 in International Terminal 1, and by Gate 15 in the domestic terminal.
• You pay the meter plus 50 THB, a surcharge that goes to the driver under a Ministry of Transport announcement, plus any expressway toll.
• Luggage has its own published tariff, which is worth knowing before it is quoted at you: no more than 21 THB for a bag over 26 inches, no more than 20 THB per piece from the third piece onwards, and no more than 100 THB for a golf bag, bicycle, windsurfer, instrument or boxed item of 50 inches or more.

Getting to Suvarnabhumi

• AOT runs a shuttle bus between the two airports, 05.00 to 24.00, every 30 minutes.
• BMTA van route 555 does the same trip for 60 THB, but only on weekdays and only in two windows, 05.00 to 09.00 and 16.00 to 18.10.
• Allow far more time than the distance suggests. The two airports are on opposite sides of Bangkok and the road between them is the city's worst.

Moving on the same day

• Mo Chit 2, where the A1 ends, is the terminal for the north: Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, Chiang Mai. Krung Thep Aphiwat, where the train ends, is where the long-distance trains leave from.
• Book ahead through 12Go, the operator or your guesthouse if you are connecting straight onto a night bus or sleeper. In season the good services sell out a day or two in advance.
• A free shuttle links the terminals inside the airport, 06.00 to 22.00 every 20 minutes, and every 15 minutes at peak.
