Getting from Bahrain International Airport to the city

The bus, and where it actually is

• Bahrain Public Transport Company serves the airport, and the stop is not where you first walk out. Go to exit 4 on the arrivals level; buses depart from zone 4A, on the road closest to the terminal building.

The two routes

• A1 runs Airport, Muharraq Bus Terminal, Manama Bus Terminal, American Mission Hospital, Salmaniya, Khamis, Isa Town Bus Terminal. That is the one for the city.
• 11 runs an anti-clockwise loop: Airport, Muharraq, Manama, Kuwait Avenue, Mina Salman, Hidd, Arad, back to the airport.

The fare

• BHD 0.300 for a single, bought from the driver.
• A GO Card costs BHD 0.500 as a one-off, then BHD 0.275 a trip with a daily cap of BHD 0.700. Three journeys pay for the card.
• Cards are sold at three stations.

Taxis and ride-hailing

• Airport taxis are metered, at rates set by Bahrain's Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications: BHD 2 to start, plus a further BHD 2 for the pickup.
• Three operators serve the airport around the clock: Bahrain Taxi Group, Speedy Motors and Arabian Taxi.
• Careem and Uber can be pre-booked, with meeting points at the arrivals curbside next to Gate 1.

A note on geography

• The airport is on Muharraq island, not on Manama's, joined by causeway. The city is close but it is across water, which is why the bus takes the route it does.
