Techo International Airport (KTI) to the city

The old Pochentong airport closed on 8 September 2025; Techo replaced it the next day, 28 km south, with no rail link.

Phnom Penh changed airport entirely on 9 September 2025. The old Pochentong (PNH) closed the night before after 65 years; Techo International (KTI) opened the next morning.
Anything written before September 2025 describes a closed airport. That includes most guidebooks, most blogs and a lot of hotel instructions.
The airport shuttle train no longer exists. It served the old airport. Do not plan around it.
Techo is about 28 km south of Phnom Penh, considerably further out than the old airport was.
Every route in is a road. A rail link is planned and is years away; for now it is a taxi, a ride-hailing car or a tuk-tuk.

This is the single most important thing on this page, because it invalidates almost everything published about arriving in Phnom Penh.

It is a far larger facility - three runways against the old airport's one.

The old airport had a shuttle train into the city. It served Pochentong and it is gone. A great deal of advice still recommends it.

There is no rail link. One is planned; it is not close.
Ride-hailing apps are the sensible choice - Grab and PassApp both operate in Cambodia and fix the price before you set off.
Taxis are available at the airport and are a negotiation unless booked; agree the fare first.
Tuk-tuks work for shorter hops, though 28 km with luggage is not a short hop.
Allow considerably more time than the old airport needed - both the distance and the traffic are greater.

Have small US dollars. Cambodia runs on dollars alongside riel, and change for a large note is not guaranteed.
Check your hotel's pick-up instructions are current. Any that name Pochentong, or quote a journey time under half an hour, were written for the old airport.
Siem Reap has its own new airport too - Siem Reap-Angkor (SAI), which replaced the old one in 2023 and is also much further from town than its predecessor. The same warning applies there.
