- The airport sits in a valley and closes in fog. Winter diversions to Mostar, Tuzla or Belgrade happen, so build slack into a winter connection.
- Tuzla, not Sarajevo, is the Wizz Air airport and is about three hours away by road. Check which one your flight uses.

- The luggage rule is the part worth reading twice. Two people with two suitcases each pay 20 KM in bag charges on top of 10 KM in fares, at which point a taxi for the 6 km is the better buy.
- One person with one bag pays 5.00 KM, which is the cheapest way into the city.
- Tickets come from the driver or from the CentroCard app.
- The route runs to Bascarsija and Bentbasa, the Ottoman old town, which is where most visitors are going anyway.
Getting in
- About 6 km from Bascarsija.
- Taxis wait outside. Agree the fare first, or use a local app. Sarajevo Taxi and similar work well.
- Public transport is possible via the nearby trolleybus and the tram line that begins at Ilidza, and is very cheap, but is awkward with suitcases.
The fog
- Sarajevo sits in a bowl and winter fog closes the airport with some regularity.
- Flights divert to Tuzla, Mostar, Belgrade or Zagreb, and passengers are bussed back, which can add most of a day.
- If you are connecting onward in winter, leave real margin.
Which airport
- Tuzla (TZL) is the low cost airport used by Wizz Air, and it is roughly three hours from Sarajevo by road.
- Mostar (OMO) has limited seasonal service.
- Dubrovnik and Split in Croatia are common arrival points for Herzegovina and the south.
