What you need, by where you are coming from
- Arriving from the United States or CanadaA plug adapter, and appliances marked 100-240 V. Anything single-voltage needs a converter.
- Arriving from the UK or IrelandA plug adapter is enough - the voltage is the same as at home.
- Arriving from most of continental EuropePlugs go straight in and the voltage matches. Nothing to pack.
- Arriving from Australia or New ZealandA plug adapter is enough - the voltage is the same as at home.

Bulgarian sockets are Type Schuko at 230 V, matching Greece, Romania and Turkey.

- Greece, Turkey, Romania, Serbia and North Macedonia all use the same socket, so nothing changes at a Bulgarian border.
- 230 V, so American 120 V-only appliances need a converter.
- Sofia's older apartment blocks often have two-pin unearthed sockets that take the same plugs with no earth behind them.
- Type is the earthed version of the same outlet, with clips on the rim rather than a third hole, so a two-pin adapter fits but earths nothing.
