Cuba confiscates drones on arrival and wants the GPS on your phone switched off, which is not a rule you meet anywhere else.
- Drones may not be brought in. They are confiscated on arrival and not returned until departure, and the process for getting one back can take longer than your holiday.
- GPS must be switched off on phones, tablets and laptops, and standalone GPS units are subject to import requirements. High-consumption electrical items may be confiscated at the border.
- Art and antiques need an export permit from the Bienes Culturales heritage office. Ask the seller whether they hold one, and keep the receipt for the airport.
- Cigars have an export limit. A small number travel freely; beyond that you need the official state receipt, which cigars bought on the street do not have. US travellers may not import Cuban cigars or rum at all since the exemption ended in 2020.
- Meat, milk, fresh fruit, vegetables and seeds may not be taken in, with narrow exceptions.
- Complete a customs form for anything confiscated on arrival - it is what you need to get it back.
