Fiji visa and entry requirements

The stay

• No visa for a visit of up to 4 months. That is unusually generous, and it is the length of a season rather than a holiday.
• Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the day you arrive.
• An onward or return ticket is checked, along with a visa for the next country if that country needs one. This is not a formality at Nadi.
• More than 100 nationalities enter visa-free, including Australia, New Zealand, the United States and the United Kingdom.

The form that matters more than the visa

The passenger arrival card is a biosecurity declaration, and Fiji means it.

• Every bag arriving at Nadi is X-rayed. Not sampled - all of it.
• You declare food, animal products, equipment used with animals or on farms, and outdoor equipment such as hiking boots, tents and dive gear.
• Poultry products from Australia and honey are prohibited outright.
• If you are unsure about an item, declare it anyway. Failing to declare carries a fine of FJD 400 or legal action; declaring something that turns out to be allowed costs you nothing but a conversation.
• Most fresh food is confiscated unless you are arriving from a country with a quarantine agreement with Fiji.

Cash at the border

• Declare more than FJD 5,000 in any currency when you arrive.
• Declare more than FJD 10,000 when you leave.
• Undeclared money can bring a fine or a prison sentence.

Yellow fever

• A yellow fever certificate is required only if you are arriving from a country on the transmission risk list. There is no yellow fever in Fiji itself.
