Terminal 3 is international. The airport publishes its taxi tariff, the rank is at Car Park 5, and the person holding a sign with your name may not be your driver.
The published taxi tariff
- GACL sets the metered fare itself, and it is worth knowing before you reach the kerb: GH¢ 10.00 for the first kilometre or part of it, then GH¢ 0.10 for each additional 100 metres.
- The metered operator is Labour Enterprise Trust Co. Ltd., and its rank is at Car Park 5.
- Pool taxis also work from Car Park 5 and their fares are negotiable, which means the tariff above does not apply to them. Agree the number before you get in.
- Car hire is at Car Park 2, with fares displayed in the arrival hall.
- Car Park 3 is the convenient one for Terminal 3 arrivals if someone is collecting you.
Confirm who your driver is
- The FCDO has reports of British nationals robbed by people posing as their booked driver in the arrivals hall. A sign with your name on it is not identification.
- Ask for the booking reference or the name of the company, and check it against your own booking before you follow anyone anywhere.
- All permanent airport staff wear an ID card showing a name and a photo. A card without a photo is not valid. That single rule catches most of the help-you-with-your-bags approaches.
- There are reports of luggage and travel document theft inside the terminal. Keep the passport on you and do not leave bags down.
- Taxi, tro-tro and app drivers are not centrally licensed in Ghana and no body is accountable for their safety standards. That is not a reason to avoid them; it is a reason not to assume a regulator has checked anything.
The terminals
- Terminal 3 is international, Terminal 2 domestic. A connection onto a domestic flight means changing terminal.
- Lost and Found is in the arrival hall and open 24 hours. Report a missing or damaged bag before you leave the airport, because the process starts there.
- KIA FREE WIFI is free in both Terminals 2 and 3, which is enough to call a car or message a hotel before you have a local SIM.
