What you need, by where you are coming from
- Arriving from the United States or CanadaA plug adapter, and appliances marked 100-240 V. Anything single-voltage needs a converter.
- Arriving from the UK or IrelandA plug adapter is enough - the voltage is the same as at home.
- Arriving from most of continental EuropePlugs go straight in and the voltage matches. Nothing to pack.
- Arriving from Australia or New ZealandA plug adapter is enough - the voltage is the same as at home.

Monaco uses French Type sockets at 230 V, with the earth as a pin in the wall.

- A Europlug fits every socket.
- A bare Schuko plug will not enter an earthed socket because of the pin in the middle; the hybrid European plug that most appliance leads carry does.
- British, American and Australian plugs need an adapter.
- Italy is fifteen minutes away and different again, with its own three-in-line Type socket.
- 230 V, so only American 120 V-only equipment needs a converter.
- Hotel rooms here are wired to French building regulations, which means earthed sockets in every room and a shaver socket in the bathroom.
