No vaccinations are required and the tap water is drinkable throughout mainland Portugal. Pharmacies run a duty rota out of hours, and third-country nationals travelling on a visa must hold insurance with at least EUR 30,000 of cover.
Health, insurance and where to be treated
- Vaccinations: None are required for entry.
- Tap water: Drinkable throughout mainland Portugal and subject to EU standards.
- Pharmacies: Marked with a green cross (Farmácia). Outside normal hours, a duty rota operates (Farmácia de Serviço).
- Private hospitals suitable for foreigners:
- Lisbon: Hospital da Luz Lisboa, CUF Descobertas Hospital.
- Porto: Hospital Lusíadas Porto, Hospital de Santo António.
- Travel insurance: EU citizens are entitled to necessary care with an EHIC card. Third-country nationals travelling on a visa must hold insurance with minimum cover of EUR 30,000.
