Driving in Tanzania: licence, roads and tolls

Left-hand traffic, radar traps on the intercity roads, and national parks that are 4x4 country.

• Speed limits drop to 50 km/h through every village on the main highways and the police enforce it with radar. The fine is paid on the spot with a receipt.
• Roads are free with no toll network.
• The park roads are rough tracks. Serengeti and Ngorongoro require a 4x4, and Ngorongoro requires one with low range by regulation.
• The alcohol limit is 0.08 %, with zero for professional drivers.
• Night driving outside towns is avoided for the usual reasons: unlit vehicles, pedestrians and animals.
