Larnaca Airport (LCA) to Nicosia and the coast
Kapnos coaches reach Nicosia in about 35 minutes for EUR 9.00; there is no train anywhere on the island.
- There is no railway anywhere in Cyprus. Coaches, buses and hire cars are the entire transport system.
- Kapnos Airport Shuttle runs Larnaca to Nicosia in about 35 minutes for EUR 9.00.
- From Paphos it is about 90 minutes to Nicosia, and dearer than the Larnaca run; read the current fare on Kapnos's own site.
- City buses serve both airports into their own towns cheaply.
- Do not fly into Ercan in the north if you intend to visit the south - the Republic does not treat it as a legal entry point.
The coaches
- Kapnos Airport Shuttle runs scheduled services from both Larnaca (LCA) and Paphos (PFO) to Nicosia.
- Larnaca to Nicosia: about 35 minutes, EUR 9.00 for an adult.
- Paphos to Nicosia: about 90 minutes, and more expensive than the Larnaca run. Kapnos publishes the current fare and any student rate on its own site; we could not verify a figure for it.
- Buy online or at the desk. They are timed to flights.
No trains
- Cyprus has no railway. This surprises people planning an island trip around one.
- Intercity buses link Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos, Nicosia and Ayia Napa, cheaply but infrequently, and they thin out sharply in the evening.
- Most visitors hire a car, and the island rewards it.
Driving
- Cyprus drives on the left, a British legacy.
- The motorways between the main cities are good and free.
- Check whether your rental covers the north before planning to cross the Green Line - most southern contracts exclude it or require separate insurance bought at the crossing.
The entry point that is not one
- Ercan, in the north, is not a legal point of entry into the Republic of Cyprus. Arriving there and trying to cross south can leave you without a valid entry - see the Cyprus guide.
