Getting from Jorge Chavez International Airport to the city

The new terminal

Jorge Chavez opened a new terminal in 2025, roughly three times the size of the old one, with expansion continuing through 2026 towards a capacity of tens of millions of passengers.

• Anything written before 2025 describes the old building.
• Check your hotel's pick-up instructions are current - meeting points have moved.
• Allow extra time on your first pass through, as with any new terminal.

Getting into the city

• There is no metro and no public bus worth using. This is not an oversight in this guide; Lima's public transport genuinely does not serve the airport in a way a visitor should plan around.
• The airport coach to Miraflores is the established option for visitors, running a fixed route to the district most people stay in.
• Uber, Cabify and DiDi all operate, collecting from a designated area rather than the kerb.
• A hotel transfer arranged in advance is the simplest thing on a first arrival, especially at night - and a large share of flights into Lima land late.

Do not take a street taxi

• Use an app or a booked car. Lima is a city where the difference between a booked ride and an unbooked one is a real safety question, not just a price one.
• Do not accept a ride offered inside the terminal.
• Agree everything before the luggage goes in if you do use a rank taxi.

Where the airport actually is

• Jorge Chavez is in Callao, the port city adjoining Lima, about 12 km from the historic centre and further from Miraflores and Barranco, where most visitors stay.
• Allow an hour in traffic, and more at peak. The distance is short; the roads are not quick.
