Getting from Tunis Carthage International Airport to the city

One bus an hour

• TRANSTU launched the line on 29 April 2024 between the Tunis Marine station and Tunis Carthage, by way of Perle du Lac and Avenue du leader Yasser Arafat.
• A titre d'essai is TRANSTU's own phrasing: a trial, with one departure every 60 minutes in each direction.
• From the airport, the first bus is at 06:00 and the last at 21:00.
• From Tunis Marine, the first is at 05:30 and the last at 20:30.
• It calls at the freight terminal and the pilgrims' terminal, so the ride is not direct.

Why the frequency matters more than the fare

• An hourly bus is not an airport shuttle. A flight that lands at 21:30, or one hour late, has no bus.
• Most European charters and the Gulf carriers arrive in the evening. Check your landing time against 21:00 before you plan on it.

Tunis Marine, and what it connects to

• Tunis Marine is the terminus of the TGM, the light railway out to Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and La Marsa.
• It sits at the bottom of Avenue Habib Bourguiba, which is the walkable centre of Tunis and the edge of the medina.

The taxi, and the money

• Insist on the meter or agree the fare before the bags go in.
• You cannot have brought dinars with you. Importing and exporting Tunisian dinars is prohibited outright, so your first transaction in the country happens at an airport exchange desk or a cash machine.
• Declare foreign cash above the equivalent of 5,000 TND on arrival. If you do not, the excess is confiscated when you leave, months later, when the arrival is a distant memory.

The airport itself

• Tunis Carthage is one of seven international airports run by OACA, the Tunisian civil aviation and airports authority. Monastir and Enfidha are run separately, under concession.
