Zagreb Airport (ZAG) to the city
The Pleso shuttle is about EUR 9; ZET city bus 290 does a comparable journey for about EUR 0.95.
- ZET bus 290 costs about EUR 0.95 with a kiosk ticket and runs to Kvaternikov trg, taking 45 to 50 minutes, roughly every 35 minutes from 04:20 to 00:15.
- The Pleso Prijevoz shuttle is about EUR 9 to the main bus station, taking 35 to 45 minutes.
- That is nearly a tenfold difference for a broadly similar journey, and the shuttle is what the airport signage and most advice point you at.
- Buy the 290 ticket at a kiosk before boarding - the on-board fare is higher, and the kiosk is the whole point of the price.
- There is no train. Zagreb Airport has no rail connection at all.
The biggest price gap on this site
Zagreb is worth reading before you land purely because of the arithmetic.
| ZET bus 290 | Pleso Prijevoz shuttle | |
|---|---|---|
| Fare | about EUR 0.95 (kiosk ticket) | about EUR 9 |
| To | Kvaternikov trg | Main bus station |
| Time | 45 to 50 min | 35 to 45 min |
| Frequency | every ~35 min, 04:20 to 00:15 | tied to flights |
About ten times the price for perhaps ten minutes. The shuttle is more comfortable, goes to a more central terminus and is what the airport promotes; the 290 is an ordinary city bus that happens to serve the airport.
Taking the 290 properly
- Buy the ticket at a kiosk before you board. A 60-minute ticket bought at a kiosk is the cheap fare; buying from the driver costs noticeably more.
- Kvaternikov trg is a tram interchange, not the city centre - allow for one tram ride at the end, which your 60-minute ticket covers if you are quick.
- Sundays start later, from about 05:20.
The shuttle
- Pleso Prijevoz runs to Zagreb's main bus station, which is central and connected to the tram network.
- Departures follow the flight schedule rather than a clock timetable, so a delayed arrival is still met.
- With luggage, at night, or in a hurry it is a reasonable buy - just make it a decision rather than the default.
No train
Zagreb has no rail connection to its airport. Every option is a bus or a taxi.
