Tirana airport has one bus into the city - 400 lek, hourly, around the clock - and a taxi at about 2,200 lek.
Tirana (TIA)
- The Rinas Express bus runs between the airport and central Tirana for 400 lek (about EUR 4), every hour on the hour, around the clock, taking 30 to 40 minutes. It is by far the cheapest way in, and the 24-hour service is what makes it useful on a late arrival.
- In town it stops behind the Palace of Opera and Ballet, on the edge of Skanderbeg Square.
- The airport is about 17 km northwest of the city.
- A taxi into the centre is about 2,200 lek and takes 20 to 25 minutes. The airport's own operator is Auto Holiday Albania and its cars are yellow, with the company and airport logos on the side - agree the fare before you get in, and use a marked car.
- Tirana is Albania's only significant airport, which concentrates everything through it.
The alternatives
- Corfu and Ioannina in Greece are close to the southern coast, and the Corfu to Saranda ferry is the classic route into the Albanian riviera.
- Podgorica in Montenegro is close to Shkoder and the north.
- Ohrid in North Macedonia serves the east.
Onward
- Furgons (shared minibuses) leave from informal terminals rather than a bus station, and go when they fill.
- Ask your accommodation where the furgon for your destination leaves from - this is local knowledge and it changes.
