Bringing things into Uzbekistan

Leave at home

  • E-cigarettes and vapes

Uzbekistan wants a declaration form and is strict about medicines: several ordinary drugs are on the prohibited list.

  • Medicines are the real risk. Codeine, tramadol and a number of drugs sold over the counter elsewhere are controlled, and carrying them without a prescription and the original packaging has caused arrests.
  • Electronic cigarettes are prohibited to import.
  • A customs declaration form is filled in on arrival, in duplicate, and the copy you keep is asked for on departure - losing it causes an argument you do not need.
  • Cash above the declarable threshold must be reported, and the declaration is what allows you to take the same money out.
  • Antiques, carpets and artwork need an export certificate from the Ministry of Culture. The Bukhara and Samarkand dealers arrange it; ask before you pay.
