Getting from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery to the city

Where it is

• Aeroparque Jorge Newbery sits in the north-east of Buenos Aires, on Avenida Costanera Rafael Obligado, right on the bank of the Rio de la Plata in Palermo.
• It is about 2 km from the centre. That is close enough that the taxi fare is trivial by international standards and close enough to walk to Palermo in twenty minutes if you had to.

The buses

• Lines 34 and 166 connect Aeroparque with Liniers and Moron, crossing the city, after the transport ministry approved bus access to the airport.
• That is a recent change. Aeroparque spent years without ordinary city bus routes calling at the terminal, which is why older advice says a taxi is the only option.

The other airport

• Ezeiza (EZE) is Buenos Aires's international airport, about 30 km out, and it is where most long-haul flights land.
• Aeroparque handles domestic flights and regional routes, particularly to Uruguay, Brazil, Chile and Paraguay.
• They are an hour apart in traffic. A self-connected itinerary that lands at one and departs from the other needs half a day, not two hours.

Practical

• The domestic network runs from here, so Aeroparque is where a trip to Patagonia, Iguazu or Mendoza starts.
• Colonia and Montevideo are also reachable by ferry from Puerto Madero, a few minutes south, which is sometimes the better way across the river.
