Flights to Zanzibar go from Terminal 2, are short, and run frequently.
The ferry to Zanzibar leaves from the port in Dar es Salaam, not from the airport - so taking it means a taxi into the city first.
Zanzibar has its own compulsory insurance requirement on arrival - see the Tanzania guide, where it is the thing that gets people turned away at immigration.

Traffic in Dar es Salaam is heavy and a short distance can take a long time.
Have small notes. Change for a large one is not guaranteed.
