Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) to the resorts
Ground transport is entirely private: a resort shuttle, a shared transfer or a licensed taxi.
- There is no public transport at all. No bus, no train - every option here is private.
- A shared shuttle is usually the cheapest, at roughly USD 15 to 35 per person, dropping at several resorts on the way.
- A private car runs from about USD 50 upwards depending on the vehicle and distance.
- Check whether your resort includes the transfer. Many packages do, and paying twice for it is a common and avoidable mistake.
- Book before you fly. Buying at the airport works but costs more, and the arrivals hall is a wall of people offering rides.

Check your booking before you buy anything
- A large share of Punta Cana packages include the airport transfer.
- Paying for one at the airport when you have already bought it is the most common money lost here.
- Look for the transfer company's desk or representative in arrivals - they will have a board with your name or the resort's.
The arrivals hall
- Expect to be approached repeatedly by people offering rides, tours and timeshare presentations.
- A polite no is enough, and walking on is normal.
- Do not hand your luggage to anyone who has not been identified as your booked transfer.
Distances
- Bavaro and the main resort strip are close - fifteen to thirty minutes.
- Uvero Alto and the further resorts are an hour or more.
- Check where your resort actually is before assuming the transfer is short; "Punta Cana" covers a long stretch of coast.
