- Uber runs about 18 to 30 dollars for the same trip and is widely used.
- InDrive also operates.
- A pre booked private transfer is 35 to 55 dollars.
- A public bus runs at around a dollar and a half, taking about 50 minutes, and is the cheapest way in.
- Confirm the price before the car moves, whichever you take.
The distance
- Las Americas is about 28 to 30 km east of Santo Domingo, along the coast.
- Thirty minutes outside the peaks.
- Between 07:00 and 09:00 and again between 17:00 and 19:00 on weekdays the road into the city is slow, and the same trip takes considerably longer. If your flight lands in one of those windows, do not book a tight connection at the other end.
Taxis
- A single taxi union holds the concession to operate inside the airport. There is no second rank and no competition on price at the kerb.
- The fare to the centre is about 25 to 40 US dollars depending on where you are going and the time of day.
- Agree the number before the car moves.
The app
- Uber operates and costs noticeably less, roughly 18 to 30 dollars to the centre.
- InDrive also works here.
- Pickup arrangements for apps at airports change, so check in the app where it wants you to meet the car rather than assuming the kerb outside arrivals.
The cheap way
- A public bus runs from near the airport into the city at around a dollar and a half.
- It takes about 50 minutes and involves a change onto the metro for most destinations, with stairs.
- It is genuinely cheap and genuinely awkward with luggage. Worth it for a light traveller, not for a family.
A pre booked transfer
- Thirty five to fifty five dollars, agreed in advance, with the driver waiting.
- For a group that is competitive with a taxi, and it removes the negotiation on arrival.
