Santiago (STI): the official taxi is triple the Uber fare
Twenty minutes into the city, and the gap between the taxi rank and the app is the largest on any page in this corpus. Both are legitimate; only one is cheap.

- That is a two to three times difference for the same twenty minute ride.
- Uber is not a grey market here. It operates in Santiago, picks up at the airport, and quotes the price before you confirm.
- The rank taxi buys you no negotiation and no phone. For a first arrival with luggage and no local data, that is worth something; it is not worth three times the fare on every trip.
- Either way, use the official stand inside the terminal. Drivers who approach you inside the building are the ones to refuse.
Timing
- Twenty minutes in normal traffic. Rush hour, 07:00 to 09:00 and 17:00 to 19:00 on weekdays, takes it to 30 or 40.
- For an early international departure, leave by 04:00 or 05:00. The airport's advice is three hours before an international flight and the check-in queues here justify it.
