Sofia Airport (SOF) to the city
A single metro ticket is 0.80 EUR and covers the whole network, so line M4 from Terminal 2 into the centre costs less than a coffee.
- A single ride ticket is 0.80 EUR, the price since Bulgaria switched its transport fares to euro on 1 January 2026, and it is valid across the entire metro network including transfers.
- Metro line M4 serves Terminal 2 directly, reaching the centre in about half an hour.
- From Terminal 1, take the free inter terminal shuttle first, and allow ten minutes for it.
- Trains run from about 05:26 to 23:49 on weekdays, and from about 05:27 to 23:33 at weekends and on public holidays.
- The metro is the answer. It is cheap, quick and avoids the airport's taxi problem entirely.
- If you must take a taxi, book at the OK Supertrans desk inside and check the per kilometre rate printed on the car window.
- Any fare you have seen quoted in lev is out of date. Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026.

- One ticket, one price, anywhere on the metro. There is no airport surcharge and no zone to work out, and the same ticket carries you through a transfer to another line.
- This is among the cheapest airport rail links in Europe, and it is the reason the taxi question at Sofia is optional rather than forced.
- The price took effect on 1 January 2026, when Sofia's public transport moved its fares to euro along with the rest of the country.
The metro
- Terminal 2 has its own metro station on line M4.
- About 30 minutes to the centre.
- First and last trains run from about 05:26 to 23:49 on weekdays, slightly shorter at weekends and on public holidays, so a very late arrival still needs a plan.
- Terminal 1 is served by a free shuttle to Terminal 2. Allow ten minutes for it.
The taxi scam, and how it works
Sofia's airport taxi problem is specific and mechanical, and knowing it is enough to avoid it.
- Every legitimate taxi displays its rate per kilometre on the window.
- The fraudulent cars display a rate several times the going one. It is printed, it is visible, and it is technically legal. People simply do not look.
- Book at the official OK Supertrans desk inside the terminal rather than taking a car from someone in the hall.
- Bolt works in Sofia and is what residents use.
Currency note
- Bulgaria joined the euro on 1 January 2026 and the lev ceased to be legal tender on 1 February 2026. Fares quoted in lev anywhere online are historical.
