The currency is the Malaysian ringgit (MYR, locally RM). Use the converter above the page for today's rate rather than a figure printed here.

• Expect a per-withdrawal limit of roughly 1,500 RM to 3,000 RM, set by the machine's bank. Whether the Malaysian bank adds its own fee on top varies by bank and changes; the screen must tell you before you confirm, so read that screen and take out larger amounts less often rather than the reverse.
• Always select "Without Conversion" - settlement in local currency. Dynamic Currency Conversion is the real threat at the machine, with a markup of up to 8%.
• Cash exchange now requires your passport. Since 2025, licensed exchange offices must request the original passport and record the customer's personal details for every transaction, including amounts below the 3,000 RM threshold.
• Cards work in malls and hotels, but street food vendors need cash or the pink DuitNow QR code. The national standard is usable through the foreign Wise app if the code carries the Alipay+ logo.
• Tipping is not customary - most food and beverage establishments add a 10% service charge automatically.
