Cheongju (CJJ): bus 747 to Osong and the KTX
Express city bus 747 runs to Gagyeong Terminal and Osong Station, which is on the KTX high-speed line. Intercity coaches need a ticket bought in advance.
- Express city bus 747 is the route to know. It runs between the airport, Gagyeong Terminal in Cheongju and Osong Station.
- Osong is a KTX station. From there the high-speed line reaches Seoul in under an hour, and Busan in about two.
- Seat bus 407 runs to Sangdang Park and on to Sintanjin, in the Daejeon direction.
- Seat bus 757 runs to Osong Station and into Sejong City, the administrative capital.
- Intercity coaches serve Seoul (Nambu Terminal, Central City in Gangnam, and COEX), Daejeon (Complex Terminal and Yuseong), Cheonan, Incheon and Chungju.
- An intercity ticket must be issued before you board, at a machine or in the app. You cannot simply get on.
- City buses you can just board in the normal Korean way.
- By road the airport is 5 to 10 minutes from Ochang IC on provincial road 540.
Bus 747, and why Osong matters
- Cheongju's airport is not near a KTX station, but bus 747 fixes that. It runs between the terminal, Gagyeong Terminal in Cheongju, and Osong Station.
- Osong is on the Gyeongbu high-speed line, and it is the junction where the Honam high-speed line branches off. That means Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu, Busan, Gwangju and Mokpo are all direct from there.
- If you have landed at Cheongju and are going anywhere else in Korea, the 747 to Osong and a KTX is almost always the fastest route.
The other city buses
- 407, a seat bus, runs to Sangdang Park in central Cheongju and on to Sintanjin, towards Daejeon.
- 757, also a seat bus, runs to Osong Station and into Sejong City, the government-office capital.
The coaches, and the ticket rule
- Intercity coaches leave the airport for Seoul (Nambu Terminal, Central City in the Gangnam Express Bus Terminal, and COEX), Daejeon (the Complex Terminal and Yuseong Terminal), Cheonan, Incheon and Chungju.
- You must have a ticket before boarding an intercity coach. Buy it at the kiosk in the terminal or in the app. This is different from the city buses, where you tap on.
- Fares shown for a coach are to the final destination; intermediate fares are on the Bustago site.
The airport
- Cheongju International sits in Naesu-eup, north of Cheongju city, in North Chungcheong province, roughly in the middle of South Korea.
- It is the main alternative to Incheon for the centre of the country, with a growing international network to China, Japan and Southeast Asia, and it shares the field with a military air base.
- It is close enough to Sejong and Daejeon to be a sensible arrival point for either.
