Bukit Bintang is the central choice at RM 110 to 600, KLCC the luxury one at RM 450 to 1,000, Chinatown the cheapest with hostels from RM 30. For a short transit stay, Brickfields next to KL Sentral runs RM 100 to 200. Every room carries a RM 10 per night tourism tax plus 8 per cent service tax, and check-in needs a physical passport. Neighbourhood prices below are 2026 estimates, not quotes.

- A tourism tax of 10 RM per room per night applies to foreign guests, set by the Tourism Tax (Rate of Tax) Order 2025. The rate is the same booked direct or through a platform, and platforms now account for it, so it is usually already in the price.
- Check-in needs a physical passport plus a refundable deposit of typically 100 to 200 RM in cash or held on a card.
Accommodation
Four Kuala Lumpur neighborhoods work for the first nights, as of February 2026:
- Bukit Bintang - the central hub for shopping, entertainment and street food on Jalan Alor. 110 RM for a basic budget hotel up to 600+ RM for an international luxury chain.
- KLCC - sought after for direct views of the Petronas Twin Towers and a luxury standard. 450 RM to 1,000 RM per night.
- Chinatown - historic atmosphere and the cheapest capacity: hostels from 30 RM, private rooms from 70 RM.
- Brickfields (Little India) - the best short transit stay, walkable from KL Sentral, with clean hotels at 100 RM to 200 RM per night.
Two taxes and a deposit sit on top of the room rate:
- Tourism Tax (TTx) - 10 RM per room per night for foreign guests, fixed by the Tourism Tax (Rate of Tax) Order 2025, in force since 15 December 2025. The same 10 RM applies whether you book direct or through an online platform, and platforms have had to account for it since Public Ruling 01/2025 took effect on 1 December 2025 - so it is usually already in the price rather than collected in cash at reception.
- Service Tax (SST) - 8% on accommodation services since 1 March 2024.
- At check-in - a physical passport for registration, plus a refundable deposit in cash or held on a card, typically 100 RM to 200 RM.
