Buses cover the country; the trains are an afterthought.
Buses
- The intercity bus network is the transport system. Skopje's main bus station sits under the railway station and serves the whole country.
- Skopje to Ohrid takes about three hours and runs frequently.
- Buses to Pristina, Sofia, Belgrade and Thessaloniki all leave from the same station.
Trains
- The rail network is limited and slow.
- The line to Bitola and the line towards Serbia exist but buses beat them on every measure.
Driving
- The motorway corridors are good, the mountain roads slow.
- A vignette is not used - motorway tolls are paid at booths.
- Winter conditions in the mountains are serious.
