Calgary (YYC) to the CTrain on route 100
Route 100 runs direct and express between the airport and McKnight-Westwinds CTrain station, which is where the rail network starts.
- Route 100 is the airport bus, running direct and express.
- It connects the airport with McKnight-Westwinds CTrain station.
- McKnight-Westwinds is on the Blue Line, which runs into downtown Calgary.
- There is no train to the terminal, and no plan that has produced one.
- Downtown Calgary is a free-fare zone on the CTrain along 7 Avenue, which is worth knowing once you are on it.
One bus, one connection
- Calgary Transit route 100 provides a direct express service between Calgary International Airport and the McKnight-Westwinds CTrain station.
- That is the public transport link. There is no rail line to the terminal and there has not been one for as long as the airport has been discussed.
- McKnight-Westwinds is on the CTrain Blue Line, which runs south-west into downtown.
What the journey looks like
- Bus to McKnight-Westwinds, then the CTrain downtown. One change, two systems, one fare on a transfer.
- It is slower than a taxi and enormously cheaper, which is the usual trade and here it is a fair one because Calgary's roads are not the problem.
Once you are on the CTrain
- The downtown stretch of 7 Avenue is a free-fare zone, so travel between the downtown stations costs nothing.
- The Blue and Red lines share that stretch, which makes central Calgary unusually easy to move around without a ticket.
The alternative
- Taxis and ride-hailing serve the terminal directly, and the airport is about 15 km from downtown on good roads.
- Winter is the real variable. In a Calgary cold snap the wait for a bus outdoors is the part of the plan to think hardest about.
