Getting from Edmonton International Airport to the city

The bus

• Route 747 runs seven days a week from 04:10 to 00:30, every 30 to 60 minutes, direct between Century Park Transit Centre and Edmonton International Airport.
• Century Park is the southern end of the Capital LRT line, so from there the rest of Edmonton is one train.
• It leaves the airport from Door 8.
• Returning, the bus calls at the Premium Outlet Collection Mall and Costco before reaching Century Park.
• Paid parking at Century Park is limited to 24 hours, so it is not a park-and-fly option.

The fare, which is its own thing

• 6 dollars one way, for every passenger - adults, youth, children, seniors. Cash gets no transfer.
• An Arc card or a contactless credit or debit card also pays 6 dollars, as a 90-minute pay-as-you-go trip.
• A 6 dollar Arc ticket is sold as a 90-minute airport ticket.
• The monthly airport fare cap is 108 dollars. There are also Airport + 3-day (36 dollars) and Airport + 5-day (42 dollars) passes.
• The catch: the ordinary Edmonton fare cap does not count towards the airport cap. You keep paying into both until the airport cap is reached, after which travel inside Edmonton is free too.

• Buy fares 24 hours a day at the Parking and Ground Transportation counter, between doors 5 and 7.

Luggage

• There is no luggage limit per passenger, which is unusually generous for a city bus.
• But nothing may sit in the aisle. Provincial rules mean the driver will not move the bus if it does, so bags go on the racks or on the floor in front of your seat.
• Space is first come, first served, and passengers already aboard are not required to move their bags for you.

The other options

• Leduc Transit runs a regular service to the airport from the City of Leduc.
• SunDog Tours runs a daily shuttle between Edmonton, Edson, Hinton and Jasper - the useful one if you are heading for the Rockies.
• The free On-Airport Transit shuttle serves Airport City on demand; call 780 890 8983 and it picks up outside Door 9 on the Arrivals level.

Where you are

• The airport is 30 km south of Edmonton, near Leduc, and it is the largest major Canadian airport by land area.
• Jasper is 360 km west and this is the closest large airport to it.
• Winter is the variable. In an Alberta cold snap the wait for a bus, even indoors at Door 8, is the part of the plan to think about.
