Christchurch (CHC) to the city on route 29

Route 29
- Route 29 links Christchurch Airport with the Bus Interchange in the city, running down Memorial Avenue and through Fendalton, skirting North Hagley Park.
- You are in the city within 30 minutes, with a bus every 30 minutes for most of the day.

Paying
- A standard adult fare is $3 when you pay with a contactless debit or credit card, a phone or a smart watch. There is no surcharge for those methods, which is unusual and worth knowing.
- So you do not need a Metrocard to get into town. Buy one at the Metroinfo counter in the Bus Interchange afterwards if you are staying a while.
The other route
- The Purple Line, route 3, also serves the airport, running through to Sumner by way of Sheffield Crescent.
- It comes every 10 minutes all week, and every 15 in the evenings and at weekends, so it is the frequent one if it goes where you are going.
Why the bus is the right answer here
- Christchurch Airport is close to the city and the roads are not busy by international standards, so a taxi is quick. The bus is quick too, and the price difference at $3 is large.
- The South Island road trip usually starts here. Rental desks are in the terminal, and route 29 is what you use on the day you have no car.
