Getting from Rotorua Airport to the city

The local bus

• Rotorua Airport Terminal appears in the Bay of Plenty Regional Council's published data about 60 metres from the runway reference point. That is unusually close.
• Route 10 runs Airport to Holdens Bay to Ngapuna to Rotorua, about 212 scheduled calls, 06:50 to 18:20.
• Holdens Bay and Ngapuna are the lakeside suburbs between the airport and the town.
• The last departure is 18:20, so evening arrivals are on their own.

The coaches

• Long-distance coach services call at Rotorua Airport, appearing in the published data with connections towards Taupo, Tauranga, Gisborne and further afield.
• These are a small number of trips a day, timed for the intercity network rather than for flights, so check before relying on one.

The town

• Rotorua is about 9 km south-west of the airport, along Te Ngae Road on the lake shore.
• The geothermal fields, Whakarewarewa and the lakes are the reason nearly everyone comes.
• Auckland is about 230 km north, and many visitors drive rather than fly.

Practical notes

• Fares are the standard Baybus fare, and the network uses the Bee Card.
• A taxi into town is short, given the distance, if the bus times do not work.
