Da Nang (DAD): the airport is in the city

Three kilometres from the centre, with a public bus at 6,000 dong from pillar 07 in the ground floor arrival area and metered taxis in the second lane.

  • The airport is about 3 km from the city centre, which is unusually close.
  • Public buses run 05:00 to 21:00, every 5 to 10 minutes at peak and 20 to 30 off peak.
  • A one-way ticket is 6,000 VND.
  • The stop is at pillar number 07, in the ground floor public arrival area.
  • All taxis at the international terminal are metered and charged on actual distance.
  • The taxi pick-up is in the second car lane past the arrival hall, with staff on hand.

Three kilometres

  • Da Nang International sits about 3 km from the city centre. That is closer than almost any comparable airport in the region, and it changes the arithmetic of everything below: the taxi is short, the bus is short, and even a very late arrival is a ten minute problem.

The bus

  • Public buses run 05:00 to 21:00, with waits of 5 to 10 minutes at peak and 20 to 30 minutes otherwise.
  • A one-way ticket is 6,000 VND.
  • The stop is at pillar number 07 in the ground floor public arrival area, which is precise enough to find without asking.

The taxi

  • All taxis operating at the international terminal are metered, with the fare calculated on actual distance rather than agreed.
  • The pick-up point is in the second car lane after you leave the arrival restricted area, with staff there to help you book one.
  • That combination - metered, marshalled, three kilometres - makes this one of the least stressful airport taxi ranks in Vietnam.

Going further

  • Hoi An is about 30 km south, roughly 45 minutes, and is where a large share of arrivals is actually heading.
  • Hue is about two hours north over the Hai Van pass or through the tunnel.
  • Book the Hoi An transfer rather than negotiating it, because it is long enough to be worth a fixed price.
