Phu Quoc (PQC): the bus is no longer free, and the airport toll on taxis

VinBus charged nothing until the end of 2025 and now charges from 20,000 dong by zone. Taxis add a 25,000 dong airport toll to the meter.

  • VinBus, the island's electric bus network, was free until the end of 2025.
  • From 1 January 2026 it charges a fare. Every guide written before that says the bus is free.
  • A trip within the same or an adjacent zone is 20,000 dong.
  • A trip across non adjacent zones is 50,000 dong. Students pay 10,000.
  • The fare is paid to the driver in cash.
  • Two VinBus routes serve the airport, running towards central Duong Dong, Long Beach, Ong Lang and Grand World.
  • Route numbers are given differently by different sources, so read the destination board rather than trusting a number.
  • Buses run every 15 to 30 minutes in the daytime, roughly 06:00 to 18:00.
  • A taxi to Duong Dong is 180,000 to 220,000 dong, 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Taxis add a 25,000 dong airport toll on top of the meter, which is standard and not a scam.

The bus stopped being free

  • VinBus runs Phu Quoc's electric bus network, and until 31 December 2025 it carried passengers free of charge.
  • From 1 January 2026 it charges. This is the single fact that dates every older guide to the island.
  • Same zone or adjacent zone: 20,000 dong.
  • Non adjacent zones: 50,000 dong.
  • Students: 10,000 dong.
  • You pay the driver in cash.

The airport routes

  • Two VinBus routes serve the airport, running north towards central Duong Dong and on to Ong Lang and Grand World, calling at Long Beach and the resorts along the way.
  • Sources give the route numbers differently. Read the destination on the front of the bus rather than looking for a number you found online.
  • Buses run every 15 to 30 minutes during the day, roughly 06:00 to 18:00. There is no evening service worth planning around.

Taxis and apps

  • A taxi to Duong Dong is 180,000 to 220,000 dong, taking 20 to 30 minutes.
  • A 25,000 dong airport toll is added to the meter. That is a real charge levied by the airport, not a driver invention.
  • Grab and Xanh SM both work here. Xanh SM, the electric taxi app, is widely used on the island and quotes a fixed price before you book.
  • Booking in the app before you leave the terminal is the simplest way to avoid a negotiation.

Where things are

  • Duong Dong is the main town, on the west coast, 20 to 30 minutes north of the airport.
  • Long Beach runs south from Duong Dong towards the airport, so many resorts are closer than the town.
  • Grand World and the northern resorts are considerably further, which is what puts them in a different fare zone on the bus.
